In my overview article for this four-part series, I talked a bit about why it’s important to “shop” for the right massage therapist and the type of massage that will work best for you. In this
article, I am introducing you to
Swedish, the most-requested massage type.
On the website of Massage magazine, Selena Belisle tells us that Swedish is a light-touch therapy during which clients can ask the therapist to use a variety of pressures throughout the body in any order they wish.
It is among the most popular of massages because its primary focus is relaxation and tension relief. In fact, a study discussed in Massage magazine (“Swedish Massage Decreases Vital Signs Associated with Anxiety”) reported that Swedish massage can reduce blood pressure.
A therapist may even incorporate a bit of Swedish with Deep Tissue, thus creating a kind of hybrid Swedish / Deep Tissue therapy that focuses on a specific area AND promotes relaxation. See if your massage therapist offers this type of hybrid therapy.
Remember: You are in control of your self-care, and you know your body.
That’s why, at Nature’s Whisper Healing Arts, we recommend the following 6 simple steps to
get the most out of your massage:
Call to inquire about the therapist’s style, techniques, specialties.
Schedule a free consultation (if available).
Ask your doctor about which therapies will complement your health-care regimen. (He or she may recommend our Lymphatic Drainage Massage [LDM] as a way to alleviate swelling, for example.)
Try a 30-minute session to start.
Take advantage of promotions to learn more about the therapist.
Visit the website or send an email message to find out more.
