Your car – you choose it carefully, and before you buy it, you might even do some research so that you know everything about it before your purchase. When you see it, the car is exactly what you had hoped for – perhaps even more!
Your car is your baby from the moment you drive it off the lot. Maybe you give it a name. I remember my father called his car “Paloma”. Do you find this funny? I now do.
You might even own the same vehicle all of your life. You make sure you maintain it, and you are proud to be its owner. Regular maintenance keeps it running at top form.
If you take that much care of your car, how much more so is it necessary to take care of your body! When maintaining your overall wellness, you feel great and can accomplish a lot. On the other hand, when a kink in your neck or a funny noise in your back becomes a distraction from your daily work, you know it’s time for some serious self-care. You will then make it a priority in your schedule. You will call your doctor, chiropractor, osteopath, fitness coach, massage therapist…you get the idea.
Your goal with your body is the same as it is with your car – to make sure it runs smoothly and that it will last a long time. That requires regular maintenance so that you can walk well, run well, and sleep well – stress free. I have heard of fluid motion referred to in this way, “Motion is lotion.” I like that; don’t you? Ah, but for motion to be lotion, it sometimes needs the antidote to negative stress and tension – self-care.
Self-care comes in many forms: A self-message, a swim, a visit to the gym or Pilates class…It might even require researching to discover things you haven’t tried before – or a call to your doctor, chiropractor, or massage therapist.
I recently wrote about different types of massages offered at Nature’s Whisper Healing Arts. So, you might want to grab a cup of tea or coffee and read about Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Lymphatic Drainage Massage. On the Nature’s Whisper Healing Arts website, you can read about others as well on my blog. And, if your massage is long overdue, it’s easy to schedule one online. If you’re not an online person, just give me a call at: 925.838.3188.
