I love essential oils, especially in my bath and footbath. I also wear my favorite as a scent on my skin. In the spring, when I’m jogging, I find the smell of lavender from a nearby bush puts a bounce in my step.
And, did you know that you can put essential oils into a diffuser, which will break them up into smaller molecules and disperse them into the air? Depending on the oils you use, the diffused aromas can calm you before sleep or energize you as you work. When you use them in this way, they become aromatherapy – and an important part of your self-care routine
When working around the house, I like to use sage essential oil in a diffuser. Did you know that the Romans considered sage a sacred herb? I not only like the fresh scent of this essential oil, but I noticed that it also adds a bounce to my step. After studying this herb, I understand why. According to Patricia Davis, author of A - Z Aromatherapy (a book I have in my library at the shop), “It is often described in old herbals as a mental stimulant.” It’s no wonder, then, that I feel more productive with this diffused oil around my space.
During the winter season and on lounging days, one of my favorite things to do is to cozy up with an essential oil aromatherapy as I sip one of my favorites, lavender herb-infused Earl Grey tea, and settle back in my favorite chair. On days like that, I like to diffuse orange essential oil because it has a roundness and sunshiny characteristic to it. Here's how Patricia Davis describes orange essential oil, “It has a jollity about it.”
Certain essential oils can enhance your massage or whatever activity you are involved in: You can have the oil added to a diffuser so that you can breathe it in and / or you can have it combined with your massage oil / lotion that is used in your massage therapy session.
For example, when studying, I like to use rosemary essential oil. Sometimes, I even add a drop to my fingertips and rub my temples with it. A few drops of this oil give me the feeling of mental clarity. In fact, rosemary has the reputation of being a brain stimulant with the ability to improve memory. It helps that I also love the aroma of this oil. Beyond applying it to my body, it's certainly a staple in my cooking.
